Daughter of Mine – Megan Miranda
Summary
Her father was the town detective. Her mother its most notorious criminal. Now the secrets of Mirror Lake are coming to the surface… and changing everything.
When Hazel Sharp, daughter of Mirror Lake’s longtime local detective, unexpectedly inherits her childhood home, she’s warily drawn back to the town—and people—she left behind almost a decade earlier. But Hazel’s not the only relic of the past to return: a drought has descended on the region, and as the water level in the lake drops, long-hidden secrets begin to emerge… including evidence that may help finally explain the mystery of her mother’s disappearance.
Mini Review
I honestly didn’t feel anything towards this book; it seems like Megan Miranda is more of a miss than a hit with me. I’ve read 3 books of hers so far, and I truly only liked (leaning more towards lukewarm) The Last House Guest. I’ll only try one more of her titles, though I’m not sure if to go for the most popular or one where the synopsis speaks to me more.
My main issue with the books is that nothing happened. Nothing. Till the last chapter, where we get all of the info dumped in Hazel, and the epilogue throws a bit of insight into how the future of the characters is going to be. It definitely qualifies as a slow burn, but with little to no payoff.
Have you read any of Megan Miranda’s books? Did you like Daughter of Mine?

Audrey, Gage and Caden’s mother, was having an affair with Roy, the boy’s uncle and brother of Perry, and the day she was killed, she was trying to leave Perry, but he accidentally caused her to crash and die on impact. The car that was pulled out first from the lake was hers.
Hazel’s mother, Libby, was killed by Roy in revenge for Perry having killed Audrey and because she was planning to run away with Hazel because she had discovered Roy was stealing money from his clients. The postcard that Hazel “got” from her mother was actually sent from Gage, because he thought his father had done something to her mum (and his father thought the same for him, I think; I didn’t get this well).
Roy was responsible for Nico’s dad’s death because he was getting close to the truth about the two Holt wives disappearances. He also killed Jamie’s mum.
The money was being pulled by Perry himself to hide it—literally, inside the house, in the walls. I believe the implication was that he suspected Roy’s theft.
Jamie was alive and hiding in a motel because she thought she was being followed and in danger; however, everything was a big misunderstanding. The man she thought was a danger to her was the missing student. He didn’t mean any harm; they just so happened to be in the woods at the same time.
Roy ends up drowning after a confrontation with Hazel and Gage, Caden and her end up amicably sharing ownership of the Holt house.
